The musical is inspired by the provocative postmodernist dramaturgical works of Heiner Müller. This project was premiered at the HAU theatre in Berlin, where Heiner Müller himself once worked in the famous ‘Berliner Ensemble’, a theatre founded by Bertold Brecht. Inheriting Brecht’s revolutionary inspiration, Müller thematized the problems of nationalism, but also the development of socialist society, which is why he often had to deal with the problem of censorship.

The musical-scenic performance we will be treated to as part of the "Rebellion" is, in terms of artistic expression, the merging of Müller’s stage expression with the provocative music of Laibach, while in terms of content it is about merging anti-nationalist and anti-repressive ideas into a theatrical gesture representing the fight against the dangers of nationalism, which is increasingly returning to us today as an alibi for new types of totalitarianism.

The Musicality of the Voice

Your voice is a very personal instrument as it is in your body and closely connected to your soul and creativity. On this two-day workshop you will work with the musicality of your voice in a playful and focused manner. The primary goal is not singing as such, but to deepen your relation to your own voice and to enhance your ability to create sounds, stories and atmospheres through your voice.

Please bring a small extract of a song you enjoy or would find interesting to work with. This extract will be one of the ways to work with the colours of your voice - how it can be interpreted and how it can be used to express the story you want to tell. The other ways of working with the colours of your voice are through improvisations, warmup and the exploration of the connection between body and voice.

The workshop is in English and is for both singers and non-singers at all levels.

Was hat die Stimme mit Intuition, Selbstkenntnis und  Beziehung zu tun? Und in welchem Verhältnis steht sie zu mir und 'dem anderen'?

Jede Hörerfahrung ist Lebenserfahrung. Sie hinterlässt eine Klangspur auf der Stimme. Diese Spur kann uns zurück zu wichtigen Momenten von Biografie und Zeitgeschehen führen. In unserem Kopf hören wir ständig Anteile anderer Stimmen. Dadurch orientieren wir uns ablehnend, abwehrend oder liebend, begehrend. Unsere Reaktion auf die Stimmen der anderen wird wieder Teil unserer Stimmidentität.

This workshop of 20 days, divided in 2 intense periods (2X10 days) will be a
deepening pre-performative training towards performance, research and the present voice.
The Deepening subjects of this offer will be:
Researching the roots of voice and listening with:
• Links to Alfred Wolfsohn and the approach of the Roy Hart theatre*, in order to the
process of contemporary performative issues in connection to voice performance.
• Tools of listening connected to the teaching of Marita Günther – her interpretation of
Alfred Wolfsohn’s approach- and aspects of the invaluable experiences from Kaya
Anderson and eventually of other founder members or Roy Hart Theater.
• The depth and dimension of extended voice in range (horizontal) as well into the human
depth (vertical), based on the lecture "Momentum" S.Weins Cologne 2013
Approaching the voice in personal presence and contemporary erformance:
• Voice, impulse and development
• Colours, timbre, dimensions and flexibility of voice
• Voice in/out active body
• Voice within musical dialogues, imaginative or other inspiring processes
• Voice leading the awareness into the sources of personal creation.
• Dialog as a general source to bring human expression into an appreciative aesthetic
context.
• The cruel and beautiful poetry of non-verbal expression and being.
Another approach to body, movement, grounding(support system), and the dimensions of
space:
• Learning about body-mind and breathing.
• Vital breath.
• Present sound
• Full physical support
• Including the aspects of Body-Mind-Centering (BMC), F.M. Alexandertechnique and
other voice/ body Performance tools.
Receiving the magic about moment, timing and expression:
• Discovery and development of own assesses towards creating and sharing
• Presence work in space/ time / dynamics /colours / form/ flexibility
• Voice/body as performance tools.
Piano as a main instrument in the voice work, the challenges, complexity and musical support
(other musical instruments or objects.)
The participants will have a possibility to develop their own personal and artistic gesture/
voice during the whole process of the program (through observing, teaching and performative
skills). Each period Sašo Vollmaier offers 10 hours of piano training as deepening study, with
the main theme " the approach to the voice with piano".
*The term VOICING/TRACING has been positioned very intentionally between the two
central artistic means of expression between voice and movement. It will be developed and
supported in dialog with other artistic traces (movement, objects, space, Instruments..).

As part of the Fortress of Peace programme arch, the Ljubljana band Laibach will perform the musical "Wir sind das Volk" (We are the people).

The musical is inspired by the provocative postmodernist dramaturgical works of Heiner Müller. Tickets for the musical are available at all Gigs Tix ticket offices as well as on their website. The price of a ticket is RSD 1500. In case of bad weather, the event will be moved to the City Concert Hall, where the seating arrangements will remain unchanged.

What does it mean for the body to sing and the voice to move? What is the rhythm of speech? What is dissonance and harmony on stage? In this class we will explore the hidden musicality of theatre, how it can inspire creation and help to establish form. Our time will be geared towards the composition of physical and vocal scores. Particular attention will be given to work on rhythm, voice and the body as they relate to the space. The participants will have the opportunity to work and improvise with live musicians in order to heighten their awareness of the space and the hidden dimensions therein.

The elements of body, voice and rhythm will be explored on an individual basis in order to uncover hidden potentials, and implemented through ensemble improvisation to stimulate a sense of play. In the end, we will focus on refining a heightened sense of listening in the composition of short études.

Zlet dolgoletnih prijateljev, ki živijo in ustvarjajo med Hamburgom, Ljubljano in Mariborom, prinaša odkrivanje zvočnih in vizualnih pokrajin, prepletenih v projekt Redkobesednost perutnic. Poimenovanje projekta je povezano z naslovom osrednje skladbe za solo flavto finske skladateljice Kaije Saariaho. Gre za zvočno – vizualni dogodek, ki združuje improvizacijo in video s komponirano glasbo (G. Ph. Telemann, G. Petrassi, T. Takemitsu, K. Saariaho, S. Vollmaier), razširjenimi tehnikami igranja na inštrument ter elementi elektroakustične glasbe in teksta. Projekt preizprašuje dinamiko različnih bližin (med ljudmi, med ljudmi in naravo, v naravi sami) preko komunikacije in se loteva vprašanja družbenosti sodobnega človeka. Posameznik je vedno v določeni relaciji z drugimi in razmislek o tem, v kakšnih relacijah želimo biti, nas človeči, dela empatične.

Nastopajo:

Gabrijela Sušek Planinšič je zaključila dodiplomski študij flavte na univerzi za glasbo in upodabljajočo umetnost v Gradcu, podiplomski pa na visoki šoli za glasbo in teater v Hamburgu. Je štipendistka letošnje akademije za sodobno glasbo (Akademie Kontemporär) v Hamburgu. Njeno glasbeno delovanje zajema različne zasedbe, pred kratkim je z Ensemble Resonanz sodelovala pri projektu Reflektor Max Richter.

V želji po eksperimentiranju in odkrivanju nepoznatega se posveča interdisciplinarnim projektom, kjer skupaj z drugimi umetniki išče načine za kreiranje novih koncertnih formatov.Trenutno živi in ustvarja v Hamburgu.

Asja Grauf je zaključila študij flavte na Univerzi za glasbo in upodabljajočo umetnost v Gradcu ter na Državnem konservatoriju za glasbo G. Tartini v Trstu.  Igra v različnih glasbenih zasedbah ter zasedbah elektro-akustičnih in improviziranih glasbenih žanrov. Sodelovala je pri nastajanju glasbe za lutkovne predstave, slikarske razstave, film in gledališče ter sodelovala pri snemanju plošč z različnimi glasbenimi skupinami. Ukvarja se tudi s pedagoškim delom na področju poučevanja flavte na glasbeni šoli v Mariboru. Je idejna pobudnica projekta "Redkobesednost perutnic".

Sašo Vollmaier je diplomiral na Akademiji za glasbo v Ljubljani - smer profesor klavirja. Sodeloval je s skupino Laibach, najprej kot klaviaturist, kasneje kot studijski glasbenik in aranžer.

Leta 2013 se je preselil v Francijo, najprej v Pariz, kasneje v Malérargues, v "Centre Artistique International Roy Hart". Od leta 2014 poučuje na "Accademia dell'Arte" v Arezzu, kjer poučuje glasbeni izraz skozi človeški glas, svoje študente pa vzpodbuja k pristnemu iskanju svojega glasu in izraza na odru.

Istega leta je začel sodelovati s Susanne Weins, performerko in pevko iz Düsseldorfa (Atelier Performative Künste), s katero sodelujeta pri vokalnih delavnicah in gledaliških produkcijah.  Ob številnih sodelovanjih z različnimi umetniki, se zadnje čase veliko posveča svojemu avtorskemu projektu za klavir solo.

Vid Hajnšek je zaključil študij filmske režije na Akademiji za gledališče, radio, film in televizijo v Ljubljani.  Ustvarja pretežno na področju dokumentarnega filma. Njegov magistrski film Konec je prejel priznanje Franceta Brenka, debitiral pa je s celovečernim dokumentarnim filmom o argentinski pisateljici slovenskih korenin Alejandri Laurencich, z naslovom Alejandra. V času študija je kot pomočnik režije sodeloval pri različnih študijskih igranih filmih, televizijskih dramah in gledaliških produkcijah, kasneje pa kot pomočnik režije pri filmu Oroslan (režija: Matjaž Ivanišin), kot igralec pa v filmu Igram, sem (režija: Miroslav Mandić). Na Gimnaziji Franca Miklošiča v Ljutomeru poučuje predmet Scenarij in režija.

Two of Slovenia’s most prominent pianists in two interconnected solo recitals, this time only as a broadcast event but streamed live all over the world.

The event will be available to view up to 24 hours after the live stream.

BOWRAIN
Tine Grgurevič - Bowrain (1983, Ljubljana, Slovenia) is a contemporary composer, pianist, and music producer.

Bowrain released Far Out, his debut, Amsterdam-recorded album, in 2014, followed in 2017 by the album Distracted and, in 2020, by his last single "Back to (the) Nature". He has performed as a support to main acts such as LAMB, Garden City Movement, Perera Elsewhere, Arms and Sleepers. In 2018/2019 he was collaborator of a South African collective, The Brother Moves On. His latest project, 2020 Seconds(A)live, will be released this year as a ‘live’ album. 

Apart from creating his own music, Bowrain has composed music for several works in the fields of visual, performing arts and theatre. His music was performed in the Museum of Modern Art and Škuc Gallery (SI), the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre (SI), MGLC (SI), SNG Maribor and Nova Gorica (SI), Het Veem Theater (NL), De Appel (NL), Melkweg (NL), the Ljubljana Biennial of Graphic Arts (SI), the Venice Biennale (IT), Frieze London (UK), Uferstudios (DE), Pioneer Works (US) and Kustera Projects Red Hook (US).

His most recent music performances include The Cosmopolitan (SA), Orbit Jazz Club (SA), Church Of Sound (UK), Alice Cph (DK), Brussels Jazz Weekend (BE), Tallinn Music Week (EE), Piano Day Ljubljana (SI), Piano Day Trieste (IT), Westway Lab Festival (PT), Goethe Institut (NL), MENT Festival (SI), 4th European Jazz Conference (SI) and Walk and Talk Azores (PT), Eurosonic Noorderslag (NL), Waves Vienna (AU), Westway Lab Festival (PT), Jazz Festival Ljubljana (SI), Druga Godba (SI), Spring Break Festival (PL), Musicbox Lisboa (PT).

VOLLMAIER: KIND OF LAIBACH
Imagine what it would be to carve out a piano classic from the 'industrial' monolithic Laibach sound structure. Vollmaier does not tackle this challenge, as one might expect, through preparation or electronic interventions, but by seeking inspiration from the virtuoso pianists Glenn Gould and Vladimir Horowitz, as well as in one of his professors (formerly an associate of the Laibach band as well), Aci Bertoncelj. He is faithful to the original music by testing the extreme limits of both the performer and instrument. Laibach's linear severity breaks precisely through industrial precision and physical perseverance, but the final result is, surprisingly, a structure even more monolithic though absolutely subtle, woven only with the black and white keys of an elegant machine, a concert grand piano which, for Vollmaier, is larger than life.

After completing his studies at the Ljubljana Academy of Music, Sašo Vollmaier began to develop his musical style, influenced by the various groups with which he collaborated (from 'chamber' to 'alternative music'). In recent years he has been active in the fields of performance and theater. His performances include stage sound design with the interventions of movement and spoken words. He creates music for dance and theater performances. His passion for the human voice led him to the "Centre Artistique International Roy Hart" in the south of France, where he works as the musical co-director for vocal works and prepares actors and singers for their roles. Vollmaier is also an associate of the Laibach group, with which he actively worked as a keyboard player between 2007 and 2013, and where he is now engaged as an arranger and studio musician.

Zauber is a musical performance inspired by The Magic Flut from Mozart. The cast is made out of 14 artists from 10 nationalities, speaking 7 different languages.

Die Zauberflöte has been woven into the research of Roy Hart Theatre ever since Alfred Wolfsohn’s first inspiration of the ‘Human Voice’ a hundred years ago. He insisted that everyone was capable of singing all of the archetypal roles in it, from the Queen of the Night’s, highest, to Sarastro’s lowest note of classical music, that in each of us there is a lover, a victim, hero, fool, wise man, dictator, witch, evil slave and more.

This workshop is primarily concerned with liberating the creative imagination of each participant to give form to ideas, songs, and texts through music, theatre or dance. Interpretation demands a stimulating investment of mind and body – sometimes remaining still while deeply moved – sometimes flying with the most extravagant fantasies. Art is the ability to discern, make choices, and accept one’s limitations when confronted by a wealth of material that may emerge during the process of searching.

Hidden Dimensions - The Musicality of Physical Performance

What does it mean for the body to sing and the voice to move? What is the rhythm of speech?
What is dissonance and harmony on stage? In this course we will explore the hidden musicality of theatre,
how it can inspire creation and help to establish form. Our time will be geared towards the composition
of physical and vocal scores. Particular attention will be given to work on rhythm,
voice and the body as they relate to the space. The participants will have the opportunity to work
and improvise with live musicians in order to heighten their awareness of the space and the hidden dimensions therein.

The elements of body, voice and rhythm will be explored on an individual basis
in order to uncover hidden potentials, and implemented through ensemble improvisation
to stimulate a sense of play. In the end, we will focus on refining a heightened sense
of listening in the composition of short études.
